Policy and Procedures (08/10)

Purpose:
This is to establish guidelines when screening applicants for the PNAA Nursing Scholarship Award. The purpose of the award is to encourage and provide support to members to obtain a Master’s Degree in Nursing, Post Master’s Program or Doctoral Program.

Overview:
The Philippine Nurses Association of America, Inc. is offering a scholarship award to a deserving graduate student who is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Nursing, a Post Master’s Program or Doctoral Program. The award provides for $ 2,000.00 for one academic year to the recipient.

Procedure:
The PNAA Nursing Scholarship Awards shall be presented to the recipients during the Annual PNAA National Convention, Gala Award Night. The eligibility criteria and requirements include:

  • Applicants must be a current / active member of PNAA one full year prior to application.
  • Current enrolment and or admission to an accredited Master’s or Doctoral Program.
  • For continuing students, Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) of 3.0 or better.
  • Active commitment to and understanding of PNAA and its mission, vision and values.
  • The applicants must be endorsed / recommended by the Chapter President.
  • The scholars must give / submit a Progress report at the end of each academic year to the PNAA President and to the Chair of the Scholarship Committee. Must have served PNAA i.e. as an Officer, Board, Committee Member, etc. at the Chapter and/or at the National level.
  • Submit brief essay (150 words) describing professional career goals: How will this scholarship assist attain my goals.
  • Complete application and submission of the following documents:
  1. Letter of Acceptance to an accredited program
  2. Academic Transcript of records
  3. Three letters of recommendations: one from employer, one from a faculty or supervisor and one from the Chapter President
  4. RESUME / CV
  5. Passport Picture
  • Completed application Form must be typed and submitted to the Chairperson of the PNAA Scholarship Committee no later than eight (8) weeks prior to the PNAA National Convention.
  • The Chair of the PNAA Scholarship Committee shall submit its decision and recommendations to the Executive Board for approval six (6) weeks prior to the National Convention.
  • The Chair of the PNAA Scholarship Committee shall notify the awardees of the decision of the Executive Board in writing and or via best available technology four (4) weeks prior to the National Convention.
  • The awardees must be present during the award night at the PNAA National Convention.
